Members and friends of the NLUS Atlanta Metropolitan Council met at Max Larger’s Restaurant in Atlanta to hear Jack Barsky talk, 1 August 2017. His topic was “Once Upon a Spy: a Peek Into 20th Century Espionage by a Former KGB Agent with Observations on Russia and Putin.”

Jack Barsky (aka Albrecht Dittrich) is a retired KGB Operative. The subject of a 2015 CBS 60 minutes special and author of ”Deep Under Cover, My Secret Life & Tangled Allegiances as a KGB Spy in America”. As a young East German graduate student he was recruited by the KGB and spent ten years as an undercover agent in the United States during the cold war. In his words, “But ten years after my mission began, the KGB ordered me to return; “You must come home or you will die”, I realized my allegiance had changed. I had never before defied authority, but now I was determined to outwit my KGB bosses and stay in the United States with the people I loved.” He severed his relationship with the KGB in 1988 and pursued a corporate career in information technology. He was captured by the FBI in 1997. Mr. Barsky is now a proud American citizen and lives in Covington, GA.
